About Me
Everything you need to know…

My name is Tyler Havener. I analyze and drive what shapes our relationship with the things we use.
For over 15 years, I have leveraged formal design and computer science education in agency creative and technical contexts, leading teams of talent in the pursuit of sensible interfaces.
My job as an experiential analyst and designer is to be aware of the form, aesthetic, and language in everything we touch, ensuring that both the complexities and simplicities of our interactions fall into the background.

A year in progress…
I expect continued career growth in the user experience discipline, as well as the launch of a few new and exciting independent ventures. There’s more, but if I told you, I’d have to thrill you…

Exploring, Embracing
Self-improvement
We are sometimes led by our deliberate choices to unexpected places.
For me, those have included near-total shuttering of my agency, a year-long work sabbatical, the study of improv comedy, a foray into sales, exclusive use of public transportation, life abroad, and unconditional love.
Yet, in spite of occasional doubt and opposition to societal archetypes, I have no regrets. I’ve gained new best friends, a new language, unrestrained confidence, and incredible memories.
It was all a setup for something big. (see “Now+”)

The Agency Years
Resonant Media
Determination and a dash of luck helped make dreams I held long ago real: to own an agency and produce work that reflected my passion for design. I built a team. We made graphics and built technology. Clients loved us.
In this case, unfortunately, all our talent and service were no match for a few well-placed mistakes on my part.
I’m thankful to have made them; new doors were opened. And the opportunity to reflect and explore larger career opportunities as an independent has contributed immensely to my station. (see my resumé)

Sticking the landing…
Workforce Blender
Becoming a college graduate leaves you with a sense of accomplishment and an idealistic gaze. My footing passed through a few states, including a different “United State,” before landing firmly on solid ground.
Computer technology handyman. Photo-artistry gunslinger. Family estate supervisor. Delivery truck driver. Italian restaurant dish jockey. Ebay auction aristocrat.
Fortunately, this mix of jobs yielded new leads for professional advancement. (see “The Agency Years”)

Educational crockpot
From the docks of youth, my ship set sail into the waters of post-secondary education.
Geek and hyper-analytical forces combined to study the foundation of a versatile professional: business administration, electronic communications, computer science, photography, graphic design, economics, music.
If it was not for a diverse range of interests, which undoubtedly would be detrimental to some careers, I could not lay claim to the ideal background for a UX professional.
